KWSC has “smashing success” with 14th Annual Turkey Drop promotion

Inspired by a promotional stunt gone awry on the 1970s television situation comedy “WKRP in Cincinnati,” Wayne State University’s KWSC 91.1 “The Cat” combined a canned food drive with the spectacle of seeing objects dropped off a three story building, as reported by the Sioux City Journal:

“It’s become a fall tradition in which a donation of two cans of food for the local food pantry allows students to enter various items, then watch them shatter or splat on the south side of Pile Hall the Thursday before Thanksgiving. Entrants can win in four categories: longest hang time, biggest splat, best dressed and sharpshooter — for the item that lands nearest the target painted on the tarp below.”
