WBGU DJ’s hit show wins her a trip to IRF in Zurich!

Brody Ramone, a student and DJ for CBI member station WBGU at Bowling Green University, was recently named Best US/Canada College DJ, and wins a trip to Zurich to DJ at the International Radio Festival. She serves as co-Music Director and hosts the show “Dirty Glitter” Thursday nights from 9 p.m. – midnight.

CBI caught up with Ramone to find out what makes her show a hit.

“I play new and emerging bands,” she said. “Dirty Glitter is a show you can literally tune in every week and find your next favorite band!” The show has four segments every week with recurring themes.

The first segment, Global Glitter Revoluition, picks a specific location and highlights music from that area. One week might be Fort Wayne, Ind., the next might be Helsinki, Finland. In the second segment, Ramone plays three songs from Los Angeles’ High Voltage Magazine, which highlight new and emerging bands as well. The third segment is a traded segment with Aurora Borealis, a show at KSUA in Fairbanks, Ala., and the KSUA DJ, in turn, plays a segment of Ramone’s music. “We call in to each other’s shows to give details on the artists and songs,” she said.

Her fourth segment is where she plays what she’s listening to lately. “Brody Approved Tracks,” she calls them. “Every week I have people tweeting me, sending me messages on Facebook … asking me what I listen to when I am not on air. I figured this would be a fun way to interact with my audience,” she explains.

Her programming philosophy is simple: “I’m a believer in good music,” she said. “Music will always be a creative culture where people can express how they really see the world. I allow under-represented bands a way to blast their voice and start a worldwide revolution.”

Want to win this contest (and possibly a trip to an exciting international locale) next year? Ramone’s advise is simple—Be yourself. “People like transparency and will support you if they know it is your passion,” she said. “That’s why the tagline for Dirty Glitter is “Join the Brody Ramone Revolution.” Make it YOUR sound. Make it YOUR scene.”
