Yale radio suspends operations

According to Section 118 of the United States Copyright Act, noncommercial broadcasting entities are required to obtain a compulsory license for the use of published music in works that, unlike visual performances or theatrical plot lines, are not dramatic. Keyes softened her stance in a follow-up email on Saturday evening, apologizing for the “overblown” tone of her previous message and explaining that the WYBCx stream will remain shut down until the group ensures that it complies with all the necessary requirements.

“The stream will hopefully be back up and running within the next week,” Keyes wrote. “For that period, it is simpler for us to shut down the stream entirely than parse through which shows would be able to broadcast or not.”

Radio Station Nearly Pushed to the Edge

Last semester, WFNP: The Edge, the college’s radio station, lost nearly all their funding after failing to submit the proper paperwork to continue acting as an existing club on campus.

In turn, they were forced to register as a “new club,” where they only received a $2,000 budget for the semester. Naturally, they blew through it quickly. This is a huge step down from the $36,000 annual budget they were operating under prior to the paperwork mishap.

IUS cuts ribbon on new radio station

 Those looking to listen to something new on the radio have another option: a station at Indiana University Southeast, bringing fresh voices to the airwaves.

Horizon Radio celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting Thursday.

The radio station streams content online and is a blend of students in the IU Southeast journalism program, students who want to participate as an extracurricular activity and IUS faculty, according to Adam Maksl, assistant professor of journalism and the adviser to Horizon Radio.
