FCC 101 – Pre-Convention Workshop Spring 2011

CBI is pleased to announce that it is offering, for the first time ever, a Spring Convention pre-convention workshop!

FCC FACTS 101

So you’re an adviser or a student in charge of an FCC-licensed non-commercial radio station. Now what?

There’s a lot to learn and to teach, but sometimes you get lost in the details of daily operations – or just trying to keep the station afloat. This workshop isn’t about motivating students or recruiting them. It’s about keeping your station legal.

One station was recently fined $25,000 for “simple things” such as tower lights not being monitored, failure to repaint the tower, the Public File was missing reports and the EAS equipment was not operational.

At many schools, a fine like that can cause your licensee to question why they’re in this business at all. So why tempt fate with an FCC fine for failure to do the basics? Learn those basics in just a few short hours – and save yourself thousands.

WILL ROBEDEE is GM at KTRU in Houston and CBI executive director. He’s authored and co-authored comments and filings with the FCC, Copyright Office, and Copyright Royalty Board on behalf of CBI members.

WARREN KOZIRESKI has been GM of The College at Brockport’s student radio station WBSU for 22 years and is CBI past president and coordinates its annual national award program.

Mark Maben is general manager of WSOU-FM at Seton Hall Univ. and a long-time broadcaster and educator.
