Minor League Broadcasts, Big Time Experience: College Radio Partnerships with Minor League Sports Teams
Is your station’s sports department looking to do more? Why not go pro? Hear from some of the people behind successful partnerships between college radio stations and minor league sports teams and get tips on how to get a similar partnership off the ground at your outlet.
Currently, WJCU partners with the Lake County Captains (High-A, Cleveland Guardians) to produce and stream all of their games. Rowan Radio partners with the Wilmington Blue Rocks (High-A, Washington Nationals) and Delaware Blue Coats (NBA G-League, Philadelphia 76ers) to call, produce and air games. These partnerships created valuable experiential learning opportunities for students and additional exposure for the stations.

One of the ways this team came together was the shared idea of the International Local Music Exchange which provides stations with a chance to elevate their local scene to an international level for free and potentially make stars of their scene. Vendor Session: How to Get What You Want from the Music Industry
What will every radio promoter and label rep always say? “College radio is the best.” But will they respond to that email you sent? What separates reverence from respect? Over the last 18 months, that connection has proven even more crucial but also more difficult to achieve.
