2013 CBI NATIONAL STUDENT ELECTRONIC MEDIA CONVENTION INFO

College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI) is proud to announce that the 2nd annual National Student Electronic Media Convention (NSEMC) will be held at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Oct. 31 -Nov. 2, 2013. The NSEMC is America’s only convention dedicated exclusively to the interests of student TV/video outlets, radio stations and webcasters.
The convention will feature three days of interactive sessions led by broadcast professionals and student media advisers, capped off with the presentation of the National Student Production Awards at a special ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 2. Sessions will focus on radio, video, and new media, with ample opportunities for students and advisers to network with each other and benchmark their operations.
CBI has extensive experience programming conventions and workshops. The inaugural National Student Electronic Media Convention — held in Atlanta in October 2012 — was a great success, with over 95% of its 300 attendees saying they would recommend it to others. Prior to the creation of the NSEMC, CBI organized student radio, TV and webcasting sessions for the National College Media Convention.
“We are very excited to hold our 2013 convention at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio,” says CBI President Greg Weston. “San Antonio is one of the country’s fastest-growing media markets, and the venue is perfect for an event of our size. It’s the ideal location for us to build on our accomplishments in Atlanta.”

Appellate Court Rules on Webcasting Appeal
The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (court) has made a ruling in the case of Intercollegiate Broadcasting System, Inc. (IBS) v. Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) and the Library of Congress (LOC). CBI made an appearance in this proceeding in order to comment upon the validity of its settlement with SoundExchange which was adopted by the CRB. CBI also reached a settlement under the Webcaster Act of 2009. The later is not impacted by this ruling.
