CBI works with College Media Advisers (CMA) and Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) to put on two National Student Media Conventions each year.

The Annual Spring Convention

Every March, CBI partners with CMA to present the Spring National Student Media Convention.   This is a smaller convention in terms of the number of sessions, but a larger convention in terms opportunities by allowing students and their advisers to learn about career opportunities.  Held in the heart of the big apple, CBI draws on the resources of the number 1 market to bring the best career oriented sessions available!  Additionally,  CBI brings a handful of sessions that deal with station wide issues (such as advising, mission statements, webcasting issues, etc.)  and skill enhancement (audio/video/writing/multi-media) sessions that are lead by recognized professionals.  Then there are the tours of media facilities.  This convention is designed to help all aspiring students and the faculty and staff that advise students to learn about internship and career opportunities and to learn new skills.  While this is designed to help member stations, this portion of the convention has broad appeal to mass comm students and their faculty counterparts who may not normally be a part of the CBI membership!

The 2011 Spring National Student Media Convention will be held March 13- 15.

The Huge Annual Fall Convention

Every October/November, CBI partners with CMA and ACP to present the Fall National Student Media Convention.   This is a much larger convention in terms of the number of sessions.  Because it is held each fall and MUCH larger, the broadcast sessions meant to provide an opportunity for stations, students and advisers to focus on organizational development with an ear towards applicability in the career path.  These conventions usually have 80-100 broadcast/web specific events and sessions, including a number or round-tables where students can gather and share their ideas and identify common issues and solutions.  Legal issues, organizational issues, and technological issues are only a sampling of what is covered in this vast array of session primarily designed to help stations and their advisers advance their organizational goals.   Obviously the knowledge learned and applied during these sessions also lead to career growth, whether or not the students are planning a career in media.
