Emory & Henry College almost ready with new home for WHEC

But before students can use the facility, the local radio station is moving in, WEHC. 90.7 FM is one of the only solar powered radio stations in the Southeast.

Radio staff say it’s a welcome change because the current station is on the third floor of a building with no elevator.

UNLV students gain more shows and opportunities on KUNV

Two months ago, KUNV quietly swapped out its Monday-Friday nighttime smooth-jazz programming for a six-hour, student-curated show called The Nightshift, divided into two-hour blocks of indie rock, underground hip-hop (including Friday-night institution Word Up) and non-commercial electronic dance music.

Cougars & Mustangs: KGUR

Though when school is in session the station rarely stops during normal hours, it is a student-run project that appreciates all the help it can get. Will Pompe, the program director of KGUR, is highly interested in hearing student suggestions for the running of the station, such as requests for particular artists, and how often to allow airspace for advertising.

“Radio can play a major role in the development of a student at any stage of his or her academic career,” said OWWR Station Manager Joseph Manfredi.  “OWWR provides an environment that encourages students to find their own voice, their thought processes, and their self-perception while they assume ownership of their education and future.”

MSU grad takes charge of WMSV.
Helping these students reach their full radio potential is the task of station general manager Anthony Craven. A 2001 MSU graduate, Craven took charge of the station in June following the retirement of Steve Ellis, who worked more than three decades on campus.
