Amanda Reesman, CBI Student Representative

Hello everyone, I’m Amanda Reesman, and I am the new Student Director.

The Basics
I am from Pittsburgh PA, and I go to Marshall University, in Huntington WV, Go Herd! I work at WMUL-FM Marshall’s student radio station. I am currently the News Director, but in the past I have served as Promotions Director, Continuity Director, and Contest Coordinator.

News Director
I have been WMUL-FM’s News Director since last semester. I have been a member of news staff since my sophomore year of college. I have produced, anchored, reported, and done weather while a member of news staff. I got involved on news staff after meeting our last News Director Laura who became one of my best friend and my mentor in broadcast.

As News Director I planned our live election night coverage and I host Campus Concern a show talking about what’s happening around campus.

Promotions Director
As WMUL-FM’s Promotions Director, I was in charge of recruitment and planning our two big events each year. Our two big events are the WMUL-FM  Car Bash, and Hair from the Herd. The Car bash is an even we do every fall during homecoming week, we paint an old car in the Opinionate’s colors and charge people one dollar to bash the car for two minutes. After the car is smashed up, we drag it through the homecoming parade.

Our other big event which I had the opportunity to plan twice is Hair from the Herd. Every year we team up with the Huntington School of Beauty Culture and collected hair donations for Locks of Love. The two events I planned collected over 800 feet of hair for Locks of Love.

Continuity Director / Contest Coordinator
I have all been Continuity Director where I wrote liners for our DJ to promote local events, and I took notes during our board meeting. This was the job that taught me how to write in broadcast, keep it simple stupid. Contest Coordinator is a job that taught me how to critically look at packages and newscasts—a skill that has been very useful when teaching new people how to make package.

Outside of WMUL
I have written for the Parthenon Marshall student paper and  hosted a segment for YaHerd a TV show at Marshall. I also work at WOWK-TV a local TV station as their weekend assignment editor. I have a cat named Lana that I found on the side of the road over the summer; she’s pretty much the best cat ever.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
